What is it about Trump’s “presidency” that makes us long to deep dive into the science surrounding water plumes on Jupiter? Even if we have never had an interest in the possibility of water on Jupiter’s moon before?
We desperately need an intriguing diversion from Trump’s diversions in which he cons everyone into looking the other way from the Russia-Trump collusion/conspiracy against the United States investigations, away from his daily unfolding, pay-to-play bribery scandals with companies both foreign and domestic, away from his sex scandals, and lies.
We long to laugh after his sycophantic administration called for Trump to receive the Noble Peace Prize following his incendiary remarks about Iran and No. Korea, but he leaves us choking. Whether Sheldon Adelson’s 30 million got to Trump, or the “president” was simply using his usual perverse distractions, Trump launched the Middle Wast further into conflagration with his move of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. As Jared and Ivanka stood vacantly smiling and cutting ceremonial ribbons, 60 Palestinians were killed and another 2,700 were wounded by Israeli forces in one day, at the same time Kushner delivered his remarks about “starting the peace process” a few miles away.
Bribery scandals, hiding poison water reports, insults to our allies, Cabinet members who are dismantling our government and services, threats, crass comments about a dying Senator McCain, lies, lies, and more lies out of this Trump administration. It is about so much more than Russian collusion although at the heart of that matter is a little thing–likely to be buried in the tumult–called treason. Yes, Russia is an enemy state, and yes, they did interfere in our democratic processes in multiple ways to help Trump win. But the fight is long and wearying.
Let’s take a closer look at that article on Europa and the remote possibility of life on the moon of a distant planet. Let’s face it: Life is certainly becoming more perilous and hideous on our own.
