Nationwide protests are planned for this Thursday, April 4, 2019 to demand the release of the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Report. Trump-appointed Attorney General William Barr failed to meet the deadline for the report’s release to Congress and the public. Protests are being coordinated by MoveOn, Indivisible, and Public Citizen, among other citizen groups. “We see our country in danger. We see our democracy fundamentally in danger,” said Jonnah Minkoff-Zern, campaign director of Public Citizen.
The rallying cry for the planned protests is “Trump is not above the law.” Trump’s legal troubles are far from over. “They are very real and very significant,” said Patrick J. Cotter, a former Federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York.
AG Barr is caving to the pressure and tried to walk back his first four-page “summary” letter of the Mueller report, said to be over 300 pages in length. He has yet to meet the deadlines set by Congress. In addition, Barr said he would be heavily redacting “multiple categories of information” in the report to protect “the reputation” of “third parties” who may be under investigation.
There is ample precedent for the Department of Justice to share all the information from a Special Counsel report, according to Congressman Jerry Nadler. “Congress must see the full report.”
